MusicFirst UK Masterclass with YolanDa Brown

Earlier today, MusicFirst UK ran their second online Masterclass event, this time celebrating all different types of student compositions from around the UK. The event was hosted by YolanDa Brown OBE - a very well-known, award-winning saxophonist, broadcaster and author from the UK and the student work that was featured was simply outstanding.

This masterclass, which was open to any music student in the UK, was a great opportunity to hear from a top music professional who had a very non-traditional route into the music industry. By attending, students and their teachers discovered insights that will not only help with their school/college/university music studies, but also for those looking to pursue a career in the music industry.

The point of the Masterclass was to help break down the barriers and stereotypes of how a musician should be defined in today's society and ignite student curiosity about music and the industry.

Congratulations to the three students who were selected by YolanDa to have their musical compositions highlighted (Seb Whitmarsh, Lucas Granger & Santiago Lloyd) - they are all INCREDIBLE young composers. Thank you to all of the teachers and students who submitted their compositions from a WIDE variety of genres to be considered. The future of music is in good hands in the UK!

Watch the video above to watch a recording of the event, and feel free to share it with your students. Congratulations to the MusicFirst UK team - Richard Payne and Matt Allen - for bringing this incredible event to life! And a BIG thank you to our co-sponsors - Focusrite and Soundtrap! We couldn’t have done it without you!
