Resources: Quincy Jones

Like many others today, I woke up to the very sad news that one of the greatest musicians of our time, Quincy Jones, had passed away at the age of 91. This incredible legend had such a massive influence on most of the music that I grew up with. I thought it would be good to share some wonderful resources about Quincy Jones so that you can help your students understand just what an icon he was. I hope that you find these useful.

Achievement.org has a really good set of resources, including an in-depth video interview, podcast, gallery and biography. Highly recommend.

I wrote a blog post a few months ago about one of the greatest music documentaries I have ever scene - The Greatest Night in Pop - featuring Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie and many more who gathered to make one of the most iconic recordings of the 1980s.

Quincy Jones Playlist on Spotify. Play his music to your students - it doesn’t matter what you play. They only need to listen to understand just how talented he truly was.

Rolling Stone Magazine put out a really nice tribute to Quincy this morning. Filled with information about his greatest hits and biographical information. Geared towards older students.

There is an awesome documentary titled simply “Quincy” on Netflix. DEFINITELY not school-friendly, but I know that I will be watching it this evening. Lots of great images and history, and it’s an amazing story. Strongly recommend checking it out.
