Tool: Magic School
With the vast proliferation of AI-assisted tools cropping up over the past few months, one has caught my attention in particular. It’s called Magic School, and it just crossed the 2 million user mark - quite impressive. They currently have over 2,500 school districts signed up and it’s not surprising given the sheer number of AI-assisted productivity tools that they have made available. While these tools aren’t specifically targeted towards music educators, almost ALL of them have very cool uses in the music classroom. Here’s a short YouTube video overview that provides a look at several of these tools.
Magic School currently has over 60 amazing productivity tools available. Here are my Top Ten most useful tools for music educators (or any educator) that are available in Magic School:
Professional Email: write in the specifics of what you want to say to an administrator, colleague or parent, and this tool will craft a professional email for you that you can then edit to suit your needs.
Email Family: just like the Professional Email tool, this will help you write emails to families and even help you translate into multiple languages for your ESL students.
Worksheet Generator: paste in any text from an article or class notes and this tool will create a worksheet for the students to complete.
Lesson Plan Generator: enter a topic and grade level and this tool will write out a complete lesson plan for that topic. You can also add the specific standards that you are trying to address in the lesson as well as other criteria.
YouTube Video Questions: just like Twee, this tool will create a variety of question types when you submit the URL to a YouTube video that you want your students to watch.
Rubric Generator: this tool does exactly what you think it does - enter the objective to your lesson or project, as well as the standards that it addresses, and this tool will generate a grading rubric - VERY convenient!
Report Card Comments: wow is this one great! Music teachers often have to complete hundreds of report cards, so this comment generator is a real time saver.
Jeopardy Review Game: enter your objectives and topics, as well as the question categories, and this tool will generate a Jeopardy style game for your students.
Song Generator: enter a topic and details as well as a song and artist, and this tool will generate lyrics so that your students can do their own parody sung to their favorite tunes.
Thank You Notes: at the end of the year, or after the holidays, music teachers often have to write dozens of thank you notes to parents and students. This tool will make sure that no two are the same!
I HIGHLY recommend registering for a FREE Magic School account today. There is a paid account for individuals as well as schools and districts, but the free version gives you everything you need to get started. Enjoy!
