NAMM 2023 - Let’s Go!

If you’ve never been to the NAMM Show out here in Anaheim, CA, you should definitely try to get to it at some point in your career. For those of us who have been here many times, like myself, it is the largest gathering of music products manufacturers in the United States and seemingly everyone in the music industry is here. It is part non-stop business meetings, part reunion, and part circus. Non-stop performances, crazy outfits and hairstyles, and a giant party in the lobbies of the Hilton and Marriott hotels.

This year, I am thrilled to be back again as a part of the NAMM Music Education Days segment of the show - sponsored by TI:ME. The Music Education Days segment attracts music teachers from all over the country, but many from the southern California area. There are lots of great sessions by some of the leading experts in the field. The most fun part of Music Education Days is going to the show floor after the sessions are over and checking out all of the latest products from the music industry. That, and people watching,.

It’s not uncommon to see famous musicians walking the floor of the show. I have seen and met countless musicians here, including Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Jackson Brown, Bootsy Collins, Slash, Yngwie Malmsteen, Victor Wooten, and more. It’s a lot of fun - you should come. I tend to roam the entire show floor looking for products that fit very specific needs of music educators. I will post a redux of the show in a couple of days.

This year I am presenting 3 sessions on behalf of MusicFirst. Two of the sessions are today (Friday, April 14). They include Podcasting Across the Curriculum (12pm - 1pm - ACC Level 2, Room 213B) and Blended Learning with your Performance Ensembles: A New Way Forward (3pm-4pm - ACC Level 2, Room 213B). If you click on the session titles, you’ll be able to download the complete PDF versions of my slide decks. If you’d like to get a FREE 30-day trial of the MusicFirst Classroom, along with all of the optional software that is available within it, click HERE.

I am also participating in a panel discussion about the intersection between music education and the music industry, along with John Krivit and Daniel Liston Keller on Saturday, April 15th in the Harman/JBL Media Center. Should be a lot of fun.
