Tip - The Online Metronome

Gone are the days when students need to lug around a tuner and a metronome. That’s not saying they don’t need those tools - it’s just that technology has made it so much easier to access and use them - all within the browser.

There are TONS of iOS and Android Tuner/Metronome apps out there. My personal favorite is Tonal Energy, but it is $3.99. While super cheap, $3.99 seems like “Rolls Royce” pricing on the app store - something that actually makes you think about whether it’s worth it (it is).

That said, most students are looking for free apps - especially if they aren’t laden with annoying ads. So here’s my tip - check out the Online Metronome site. First off, it’s 100% free. Second, it includes a metronome, tuner, fingering charts, a practice log, and much more. I love when someone democratizes music technology like this. The site is the work of Andrew Swinney. He accepts donations, which I highly recommend doing, especially if you’re a teacher that sends their students to the site on a regular basis.

The site works best in the Chrome browser. Bookmark it today and point your students there. It is also an included Resource in the MusicFirst Classroom. Hope you find it useful!
